Enjoy a creative class in the comfort of your own home! Claire from Dotty by Design will run a Private Kintsugi Class for up to six people, bringing all the kit you need to learn the ancient craft. Get ready for an enjoyable and relaxing crafty experience with all equipment and materials included in the price, you’ll just need to provide the venue.
Kintsugi, the Japanese art of embracing your imperfections. Learn how to mend once loved china and earthenware in this mindful introduction to the Kintsugi method. The visible repairs are seen as part of the history of an object, highlighting the cracks and symbolising fragility, strength and beauty.
The idea of this workshop is to repair a loved item, joining together the fractures using resin glue and gold gilding liquid to make it whole once more. The imperfections aren’t to be hidden but embraced! The Kintsugi method celebrates the beauty of the scars in an object and recognises that the history should be shown and not hidden. Claire will provide you with a broken item or you can smash your own, before taking you step by step through the technique. This is very much a thoughtful and methodical process….not to be rushed, where each piece is applied and repaired carefully.
The session will run for approximately 90 mins, with 30 mins set-up/tidy-up time before and after. Claire will bring all the kit needed to craft away in the comfort of your own home, but will need a normal dining table size surface for participants to work on (to fit 6). All surfaces will be covered and protected.
